Lay Groups

Women’s League
The association of Catholic Women is one of the strongest lay groups in the parish. Their main scope is to be at the service of the people in need, especially those from the parish. They also help the priests taking care of the sacristy (cleaning and general maintenance) and all the things related with the liturgical service. On occasions they also take care of the cleaning of the church premises and parish offices.

Ba Nazareth
The Nazareth lay group follow the spirituality of the Sacred Family of Nazareth. They aim at the restoration of the family life under the example of the family of Nazareth: Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

The movement in the parish is mainly made up of women who on constant basis gathered for the formation meetings at the parish and archdiocesan levels.

Franciscan Third Order
The Franciscan Family has made great impact in the Catholic World. Thy are present in the  diocese of Lusaka and also in St. Mary’s Parish. The contribution to the spiritual up-building of the Christian Community is quite remarkable.

The Franciscan Third Order also known as ‘Tertiary’ meet on weekly basis (Wednesday) in order to pray the rosary and some other practices of piety.

Xaverians
This movement follow the spirituality of Francisco Xavier in spreading the gospel through the peer evangelisation. Among their activities they also develop activities similar to those of the boy-scouts. Their participation in the parish life is felt and appreciated since they contribute to the formation of the young people of the parish.

Action
The men and women who take part in this lay group follow the spirituality of the ‘Martyrs of Uganda’. Often they hold seminars and workshops which improve their participation in the church life. They also help people who are most in need in the parish.

Motherhood
This lay group in the parish help those Catholic Women who are finding difficult their role as mothers. In this group is worth nothing the presence of the ‘Junior Motherhood’ that looks after girls who have become pregnant during their early years; a big part of the group are the girls who are still school goers.
Legio of Mary
The Legio of Mary is a very well known catholic group and their main scope is to spread the devotion to Mary by imitating her in their daily life.

In our parish there is also the so-called ‘Junior Legio’ which is the section of the group that is open to young people who has the desire to follow this spirituality.

St. Joachim  and St Anna
This group deals with the social service in the parish. Most of the time they avail themselves to help people who are in need of some help in times of bereavement. Their participation in the parish is appreciated since due to the AIDS pandemic many people need social and spiritual assistance.
